the community that nurtured glenisk

Glenisk is situated on the site of the old family farm in Killeigh, Co Offaly. A few miles outside the historic town of Tullamore, it’s located in lush farmland in the very centre of Ireland. The 300 year old farmhouse, home to generations of the family, where Mary Cleary first began experimenting with home-made yogurts in the mid 1980s sits adjacent to the new plant.

The area remains a Cleary stronghold. Standing at the gates of the factory, look in any direction and you’ll see a house where members of the next generation of Clearys have set up homes, with swing sets and bikes and all of the accoutrements of family life on display.

Glenisk has grown rapidly since the mid 1980s. The business now sources milk from organic farms the length and breadth of the island, and ships it all over the world, as far away as Singapore and Hong Kong. And yet, it’s a business still firmly rooted in the community – a community that nurtured it in its infancy and supported its recovery following a devastating fire in 2021.

Glenisk owes a particular debt to the people of Offaly, which is why we support local schools, clubs and charities. It’s why, as well as planting 2,000,000 trees in Africa with Self Help Africa, we committed to planting 100,000 trees to repopulate woodland in Killeigh. And it’s why we are proud to be the official sponsor of Offaly GAA, Offaly Camogie, Offaly LGFA and Offaly Go Games.
